Money and costs, currency, hungarian forint

Hungary belongs to the countries which are known to have a good price/ value ratio for the tourist, however the prices have increased in the last couple of years. If you do not wish to spend all your money at clubs or casinos you can have a pleasant time on 30 €- 50 € cost per day. Our currency is the Hungarian Forint.

The official currency / money of Hungary is the Hungarian forint (HUF or Ft) and to exchange you currency should not be a problem. Most of the Hungarian hotels accept credit card and foreign currency as well. Credit cards can be used at ATM’s to get forint, however we would not suggest taking travellers cheques with you as they are rarely accepted. If they are, usually there’s an extra cost as well. It is well known in the Hungarian hospitality to tip and at a lot of places such as cafes, bars, restaurants the tip is a considerable part of the workers salary. If you’re satisfied with the service, the suggested ammount of tip money is 10- 15 per cent of the total charge.
