The Danube is the main shipping route of Hungary, connecting Vienna, Bratislava and Budapest. From spring until autumn there is a hydrofoil service between these cities, which gives you the leisured way to discover not only those cities, but beautiful scenery on the way as well. Visegrád, Esztergom and the Danube bend can be easily reached from the capital by boat. Lake Balaton is the largest fresh water lake of Central Europe and is home to the most active ship life .

Shipping on the Budapest compartment of the Danube:
In season (from May until October) there are plenty of opportunities to take a ship tour. You can take a sightseeing tour on the Danube (at nightime with a candlelit dinner). There are also sceduled ships to the beautiful, small city Szentendre, or you can get to to see the beauty of the Danube bend. To see Budapest from the river is amazing.

Boat life on the Lake of Balaton:
The boat season on the lake is between spring and autumn, after this time until the lake gets icy, only the ferry boat operates. Most of the cities around the lake have their on piers. During summertime the lake is packed with small sail boats. Sailing on Lake Balaton is a great experience for children and grown ups. Summer nights for the young ones can be spent on the disco boat operating from the ports of the major cities. For the more mature traveller you can take a tour interlaced with wine tasting as well as experiencing the unforgetable sunsets over Lake Balaton from the deck of a boat.
